The Family Ministry at City Church Denver exists to care for the families of our community and guiding the children into relationships with God. We seek to reinforce the biblical truths that parents are teaching at home, support and encourage the parents, and to give children the opportunity to benefit from relationships with other children and adults in our congregation. Children’s Ministry is not about controlling, babysitting, or entertaining kids on Sunday morning; it’s about teaching children to be followers of Christ and in so doing, making an investment in the Kingdom for eternity. Ultimately, we want to see these little ones walking with God as mature Christians for the rest of their lives.
City Youth is our one-on-one discipling plan to connect each youth (Middle and High Schoolers) in our church with an adult. Our goal is to have someone walking alongside of them through this unique season of life. They will connect once monthly individually as well as once monthly corporately with other youth and adults before our worship service who are doing the same thing.
Kid’s Club is offered the first Sunday of the month for children in 1st-5th grade. Similar to Children’s Church, children attend the beginning part of the worship service with their parents and leave before the Passing of the Peace. Kid’s Club is a continuation of learning from Children’s Church with age-appropriate lessons and activities.
We believe that children can truly know God, and should be encouraged at a young age to worship with the rest of the community. Although they may not be able to understand or participate in every aspect of the service, they often absorb more than we give them credit for. We encourage families to choose how best to worship together for our main service. Though we recognize that many parents of infants and toddlers prefer to have childcare assistance during worship and most young children benefit from age-appropriate teaching, children are always welcome to remain for the entire service.
Children’s Church is offered for children ages three through six. Children attend the beginning part of worship services with their parents and leave before the Passing of the Peace for an age-appropriate worship time. Using a simple liturgy, this time is designed to help kids understand how to participate in worship. Kids sing songs, greet each other, and learn about God’s word. The leaders return with the children to the service at the end of the sermon prior to Communion.
We offer nursery care to our infants and toddlers on Sundays during the worship service. We are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment and our nursery is staffed by professional childcare workers along with screened volunteers. Even our very youngest members are included in worship by following a liturgy that includes greeting, singing, and a Bible story during the nursery time. Parents may pick up their children from the nursery after the sermon to bring them up for a blessing during Communion
We celebrate Family Sunday on the 4th Sunday of the month as we encourage families to worship together. Typically, children actively participate in various roles within the service on this Sunday. It is often during these Sundays that our youngest members receive baptism as a sign of the child’s membership in the church community and of God’s promises.
